Our Promise
Yamess was built by a parent, for parents. Every decision about privacy starts with the same question: Would I be comfortable with my own child using this?
If the answer is ever no, we do not ship it.
What We Protect
Your Child's Conversations
Every question your child asks and every answer Yamess gives is visible to you in your parent dashboard. You can read every conversation, see what topics your child explored, and review their daily activity.
Conversations are stored securely and are never browsable by anyone else.
Your Child's Information
We collect only the information needed to operate:
- Parent account — your name and email address (for login and safeguarding contact)
- Child profile — the name, age band, reading confidence, and guidance mode you choose during setup
- Chat history — the questions your child asks and the answers they receive
- Academy progress — which lessons your child has completed
We do not collect your child's full name (you choose the display name), location, school name, contact details, billing information, or any data from third-party services.
What We Do Not Do
No Advertising
Yamess has no advertising. There are no ad trackers, no third-party analytics cookies, and no sponsored content. Your family's attention is not for sale.
No Selling of Personal Information
We will never sell your personal information or your child's information.
No Hidden Data Collection
We do not collect data for the sake of collecting it. Every piece of information we store has a clear purpose — either to operate the service, generate your daily summary, or keep your child safe.
Who Can See Conversations
You (the parent) — You can see every conversation in your parent dashboard.
Your child — Your child can see their own conversations while using Ask & Learn.
Yamess (the team) — Yamess has no internal tool for browsing conversations. The only way to access chat data is through the Firebase/GCP infrastructure, which is limited to the founder and logged via Cloud Audit Logs.
AI provider (DeepSeek) — Receives each individual question and generates an answer. They do not have database-level access.
Firebase / Google Cloud — Our hosting provider. They have infrastructure-level access governed by Google's security policies.
AI Training
What we can say with confidence: Yamess does not use your child's conversations to train or improve our own models. Yamess does not have any system that reviews conversations for model training purposes.
What we are verifying: Whether the AI provider (DeepSeek) uses API inputs or outputs for model improvement. We are reviewing their terms and exploring provider options that offer contractual guarantees against training use. We will update this page as soon as we have a definitive answer.
Parent Controls
You are in control of your child's experience:
- Read every conversation from your dashboard
- See a daily recap of what your child explored
- Pause access at any time
- Review safety events with context
- Adjust reading confidence, guidance mode, and voice settings
- Track Academy progress
Data Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS and encrypted at rest in Firestore. Production access is limited to the founder and logged via Cloud Audit Logs. Each child has an encrypted session cookie that expires after 30 minutes of inactivity.
Your Rights (UK GDPR)
Yamess operates in the UK and complies with UK data protection law. You have the right to access, correct, delete, and export your data. To exercise these rights, contact privacy@yamess.com.
